Double JJ Resort continues through bankruptcy
ROTHBURY – Golfers who have heard the news that the Double JJ Resort has declared bankruptcy needn’t be scared away by that big ugly word.
The resort, fresh off an amazing music festival, is still open for business, despite a lawsuit in Oceana County Circuit Court that calls the resort “insolvent” and unable to pay its bills.
The Thoroughbred golf course is one of the many Art Hills’ designs in Michigan. It is one of the state’s tougher courses, but the natural wetlands add to its beauty and charm.
Golfers need to look no further than Shanty Creek to understand that golf businesses can carry on through bankruptcy proceedings and ultimately emerge successful.
Recently, a judge in Grand Rapids ordered a receiver appointed to run the Double JJ Resort, which remains open under Chapter 11 federal bankruptcy protection. Majority owners Bob and Joan Lipsitz told U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Jeffrey Hughes in papers filed this week they hope to sell the 2,000-acre resort that includes a ranch and water park. More than $17 million is owned to a South Dakota bank for the construction of the resort’s water park.
