The Meadows to host Senior Amateur

ALLENDALE – Having hosted six NCAA golf championships, The Meadows at Grand Valley State University is ideally qualified to conduct golf events and championships. The first West Michigan Senior Amateur Championship will be held Sept 21-22 at the course. The 36-hole medal play event is aimed at male golfers 55 years of age and older and also includes a Super Senior age division for those 65 years and older. In addition, the competition will include three separate flights: a Championship Flight counting gross medal scores only; and First and Second Flights that will use a player’s handicap to award a net score champion.

“We’re very excited about this event in that it reaches out to one of the game’s largest and most avid segments,” said Terry Sack, General Manager at The Meadows. “And by offering both scratch and handicap flight divisions this tournament will be more inclusive than other golf events,” said Sack.

For a cost of $75, entrants will receive 36 holes of golf with cart, range balls, and prizes. In a concession to the final day of the Ryder Cup, a shotgun start at 8 AM on Sunday followed by a complimentary lunch will allow competitors after their round to watch the matches inside the Meadows remodeled clubhouse with its large flat screen HD television sets. Entries forms are available by calling 616-895-1004 or by visiting www.gvsu.edu/meadows.
